It’s more important now than ever to ensure your website is secure and your website users data is protected.
Google acknowledged this early in 2017 and have since flagged on their address bar whether or not the site you are planning to go to is secure or not. Any sites that collect personal data or passwords – like all WordPress websites do – carry this warning, unless they have been migrated to HTTPS.
Moving your site from HTTP to HTTPS will ensure the security of the data moving from your visitors web browser to your website.
Taking this all into consideration led to us to create a service to help manage website migrations from HTTP to HTTPS, since it’s a complicated process that requires a pragmatic, considered approach.
The major unknown in the process is your access to to the appropriate SSL/TLS certificate which when installed provides the security. There are a variety of certificates available, including the free Let’s Encrypt option, but whether you can use these will depend on your hosting provider. We’ll walk you through your options and guide you towards the best solution.
What will we do?
Once your certificate has been installed we take care of the rest of the migration which involves updating the urls in your database, running checks, applying fixes and organising redirects. We’ll manage the process of editing the hard-coded links off site, for example on your Google Analytics property.
We’ll also take care of the other post-migration tasks like informing Google about the change via your new HTTPS Google Search Console property which we’ll create for you. In addition we’ll submit the site to HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) so they are aware of the change.
How will we know the migration is complete?
When the migration is complete you’ll see the padlock icon when you visit your site, along with the word Secure next to it, as below.
Please get in touch to discuss your migration.
