Over the years we’ve spoken to quite a few business owners about our SEO retainers and the questions below tend to come up most often.
What will happen after I pay the initial installment?
First, in most instances we’ll deliver an SEO audit to the schedule we’ve agreed. This will take the form of a report with recommendations for us to discuss and prioritise.
What will you do each month?
This will depend on your priorities and objectives – we’ve outlined the majority of our regular tasks on our areas of work and task management page. We’ll recommend where to prioritize our efforts to meet these and look to identify low hanging fruit from the outset where quick rewards are available.
Each month we’ll focus our efforts on your objectives, and typically look to complete tasks that improve your rankings and conversions for your target keywords.
How many hours per month?
This really depends on your budget. We are happy to carry out a minimum of 4 hours per month for any client. The maximum number of hours we can complete each month will also depend on our availability.
How long will it take?
I’m afraid this also depends on your priorities and objectives, but we’re very clear from the outset that you’ve got to be in it for the long run. There are no quick fixes to SEO, but there are often quick wins available. It also depends on how your website is set up and any previous SEO efforts, i.e. what stage of the journey are you at in terms of delivering content that meets users intent and how aware are Google of said content.
I tell my potential clients that are considering an investment in SEO, to think in terms of clicks on your content on the search engine results pages (SERPs), and the impact that increasing the number of clicks could have on your business. Clicks leads to visits, visits can lead to enquiries, enquiries can lead to new customers.
In some instances there will be things we can do for clients to rectify issues they’re experiencing, for example if a site has been redesigned and organic traffic dropped as a result, there’s things we can do to fix this.
What I’m trying to convey is that there’s no overnight solution. You’ve got to be in it for the long haul. If you follow SEO best practices – which I’ll show you – you’ll be on the right road.
How long do I have to sign up for?
All we ask is that following the audit, new clients sign up to a retainer for at least three months, at which stage we can review and either party can pull out of the arrangement.
Keeping in touch
How often will you be in touch?
This can vary, but it will be at least once a month. We’ll deliver your reports and at least one update on our progress every month, along with a timelog to show how we spent the allocated time.
Can we meet in person?
It’s definitely possible, depending on your location. We’re based in Haywards Heath in West Sussex and are mobile (within reason!). You’re welcome to come to our home office, and we can come to you. The only thing we’d say is that if we are visiting you, that the time it takes to reach your offices, and the subsequent meeting will be part of your monthly allocation. And we’d also charge for any agreed business expenses as per our terms and conditions.
As a client, what’s expected of me?
Quite a lot actually. We’re in it together. No-one knows your business better than you and your colleagues. We’ve written a separate page which details our expectations of you.
Is there anything that would prevent you from taking us on as a client?
Assuming the commitment is there to work with us on the project, and we have time in our schedule, there’s not a lot that’s going to stop us taking you on!
We specialise in WordPress websites and have knowledge of other content management systems (CMS) including Squarespace. All we’d say is that if your CMS is bespoke, or one we’re not familiar with, then there may take us some time to familiarise ourselves with the product.
There’s really only one situation where we’d feel compromised in taking on a new client, which would be if they operated in the same or similar market to one of our existing clients. In which case we’d declare this during the initial consultation.
How many keywords will you report on?
We’ll track your rankings daily and provide a report each month for up to 100 keywords on one device (desktop or mobile) and one location (this could be a town or city, county or the country as a whole).
