Have things improved?
In April 2016, 1,591 users visited their site. By April 2018 (when this post was written), 2,286 users visited the site, that’s an increase of 43% in two years.
Just to prove this wasn’t a blip, I’ve copied in the chart below from Google Analytics which shows the growth month-on-month.
SEO’s, and their clients, are generally more interested in clicks i.e. the number of times their content was clicked on when it is returned on the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs), than overall traffic metrics. We can measure number of clicks each month using their Search Console account data.
At the time of writing, May 2018, 1,820 clicks were recorded in the last 28 days. Back in May 2017, i.e. the same month the previous year (we could go back to November 2016 but didn’t want to potentially skew for seasonal variations), they earnt 1,540 clicks, which is an 18% increase in just 12 months.
What did we do?
First we rebuilt their site to improve the user experience. As part of the process we performed a content audit to whittle down the content they had and re-purposed quite a lot of their old content.
Since then we have worked with them to update their Portfolio to show recent jobs completed, which are all optimised for their targeted locations. We’ve looked to improve their conversions when visitors arrive at their site and have just started the process of optimising their remaining content, starting with their best performing.
Optimising their existing pages is a project that will continue for the foreseeable. In addition we hope to continue to create new content with them that targets new keywords, and work with them to promote their services to the wider community.
