We know a lot of digital marketing agencies offer to build incredibly cheap WordPress websites. We provide an alternative to these. Although we believe we provide extremely reasonable quotations for the work we do, it’s likely to be more of an investment for our clients, because of the value we add throughout the development process.
Best thing to do, ask us for a ballpark estimate!
After we deliver a ballpark, we request an indepth Q&A session to provide an accurate and comprehensive quotation explaining how we plan to complete each project and provide options for services, features or functionality that you may not have considered.
The purpose of this page is to explain what’s included in the website builds or rebuilds that we undertake, which we hope will go someway to explain how we believe we stand out from the crowd.
Latest evidence suggests WordPress now powers a massive 25% of the web. It’s been our chosen platform for our website development since day one. We’ve previously explained the reasons we fell for WordPress, the main one being website owners can apply simple content updates themselves.
We’ll spend some time explaining the key WordPress features to our potential clients, including creating blog posts, the two most popular taxonomies; Categories and Tags, custom post types and how to use all of these to structure your content. We’ll also run through the core settings to explain what’s possible to configure your site to your exact requirements.
Search engine optimisation (SEO) is integral to each of the builds we undertake. We wouldn’t put our name to anything that wasn’t built with search engines in mind. Therefore from the outset we’ll put SEO on the table, explaining what it is, how the way you build your site impacts upon it, the importance of blogging and how to create optimised content. Did you know we offer free SEO one-to-ones?
If you advise us of your domain and hosting registration details we’ll set up and install WordPress in a testing environment whilst we develop your site and move it to your live server when the project is completed.
Frameworks, themes and plugins
WordPress uses themes and plugins to determine the look and to a certain extent the functionality of websites. We decided recently to build all our client websites using the Genesis Framework. This framework provides a solid foundation for all the sites we build and ensures they run smoothly, are user-friendly and built to last.
Plugins can be used to add the functionality that the theme doesn’t. We decided to select from a smaller number of plugins to ensure page load times are not compromised, to reduce the chance of conflicts and to maximise security.
All the sites we build are responsive, which means they operate as well on desktop as they do on tablet and mobile devices. As such they stand up to Google’s mobile-site friendly test which is a crucial ranking factor.
We’ll have discussed how the content is to be generated in our first consultation. In the second we’ll work with you to develop the conversation until we have a clear understanding of your objectives so we can decide where the content should sit within the site (sitemap), as well as the navigation and elements for each of the key page templates (wireframes).
Our quote will take into account how many images you require to be uploaded and optimised for search (images are as searchable as text on the web), but adding text to your site is not included. We will drop holding copy onto each page but can add text if required at our standard rate.
We will keep you updated throughout the development of your website. We project manage throughout and advise you when there’s something we need your feedback on. The majority of this takes place on email, but we provide an option for a regular call if required.
As part of this service we will proactively recommend solutions to you and invite your feedback.
We allocate a set number of hours to project management based on the brief and consultations. We’ll keep a record of the hours we have spent and will advise when we’re getting close to the limit. Obviously if we reach the threshold we won’t down tools if the project is not completed, but we will need to add a charge, most likely at a reduced rate, for further hours spent on the project. We would look to agree this at the start of the project.
Optimised for launch
The websites we build are delivered with search engines in mind. Before launch we’ll install and configure an SEO plugin and complete any on-page optimisation tasks as agreed. These may include uploading images and adding meta descriptions.
Browser & device testing
We test all our sites in current versions of all major desktop browsers including Google’s Chrome, Apple’s Safari, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. We also test that the site performs well on Apple’s latest iPad, iPad Mini and iPhone devices, as well as the latest Nexus.
Pre and post launch checks
We have compiled lists for tasks that need to happen before and after launch and will work through these checklists and advise our clients if we require their input at any stage.
We will advise you to create an account with Google and register the site using Google Analytics to track activity on your site. We will provide you with some step-by-step instructions and ask that you send us the tracking code required for your site. We’ll filter out the spam bots that will skew your reports and monitor the site for the first month. We’ll also provide some general information explaining what you can learn from the data.
If you need further support with your analytics, we offer a half-day 1-2-1 workshop on the topic.
We’ll advise you register your site with Google on their Search Console, as well as Bing’s equivalent (Bing Webmaster Tools). We’ll ask you how to add us as a user to your account so we can submit a XML sitemap to Google and generally review the health of your website over the first month checking that all the content is accessible and indexed correctly. We’ll also tell you how to link your Google Analytics and Google Search Console accounts and explain the benefits of doing so.
Before launch we’ll provide you with a document advising how you can manage content uploads to your site. This document will also detail key requirements, for example the optimum size of images to be uploaded. If you require face-to-face training sessions then we offer this at your convenience too, but it is not included.
We provide free and unlimited email and telephone support for the first four weeks after the project is completed so as to iron out any teething issues that you may be experiencing. After this period we’d look to agree a retainer for any support if required.
Three-month SEO checkup
We will provide a report three months after your site goes live based on the Google Analytics and Search Console data gathered in that time period. The purpose being to highlight any opportunities and just double check everything is set up and working properly. Read more about how we add value with our SEO checkup service.
Closing the site
Should you wish us to close the website for any reason we will send you a copy of the website files and database for your records should you ever need to bring the website back to life.
We hope this list explains how we believe we add value and stand out from the crowd. We’re good at hand-holding, and although it sounds cliché, we’ll be with you each step of the way.
